La torta was created when in a taco shop they came up with a wheat bread that they consider a mixture of native and European cuisines, and a substitute for the tortilla in the street food of Mexico City. Its origin is in the city of Puebla and suggests that its appearance could be prior to the US invasion of 1847 and of a certain boom period between the French invasion of 1862. In any case, the first reference to the existence of the “ Composite torta ”, as this“ treat ”was known in the 19th century, we find it in the advertisement section of the newspaper "El Pájaro Verde" of February 8, 1864.
